Smooth scrolling on a ListBox instead of by-item scrolling? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Is it possible to have listboxes scroll their items smoothly, meaning pixels at a time (in this example, it would be possible to have items disappear smoothly at the top or bottom of the listbox), instead of the jerky whole-items at a time?  In my case, I have a listbox with rather large items within. Scrolling smoothly would allow the user to see half a list box item and see the beginning of the next--but by default, the list box automatically advances an entire item when scrolling up and down, instead of smoothly scrolling the items out of view.  I would love it to scroll like a web page, whether it's cutting off text or graphics.

  • Hi Prasad,

    Thank you for the links.

To get smooth scrolling in ListBox, you must turn off 'Can Content Scroll'.  This will stop virtualizing the items in the list box and populate them with all the items, allowing for smooth, pixel by pixel scrolling instead of item container by item container scrolling.  The danger of this is that if you have a large collection of items, performance can be severely hampered by using this option.  Use with care.
