Can you redirect a DNS primary zone directly to a load balancer? RRS feed

  • Question

  • The underlying issue is that users have to use WWW to get www.example.com to load instead of example.com.

I respect that you can create a blank aHost record and an alias for WWW to point to this a host and this works but the solution designed here requires it to hit a load balancer.

This requires some of our DNS records to redirect to this.

So is it possible to get the primary zone to recieve the request and then immeadiately send this to the load balancer for resolution?

With NS records pointing to the load balancer it still resolves locally as below:

    (domain controller)

    C:\Windows\system32>nslookup
    Default Server:  localhost Address:  127.0.0.1

    > example.com
    Server:  localhost
    Address:  127.0.0.1

    Name:    example.com

(On the load balancer - it works!)

    C:\Windows\system32>nslookup
    Default Server:  localhost
    Address:  127.0.0.1

    > server loadbalancer
    Default Server:  loadbalancer
    Address:  1.1.1.1

    > example.com
    Server:  loadbalancer
    Address:  1.1.1.1

    Name:    example.com
    Address:  <IP is returned successfully>2.2.2.2

    Any suggestion appreciated.
