Can I record gestures and their location in space? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am starting a research project and I want to measure how hand gestures change over time. Therefore, I want to track and record finger and hand gestures, which are repeated over several weeks. Can the Kinect record such a thing? Are there programs out there which I could use to track and measure subtle changes in the same gesture?

  • Their should be a gesture recording project on codeplex. I would type in kinect on codeplex.com's search bar because their is more then one project devoted to gesture recogition.

  • subertopoz,

The Kinect for Windows SDK does not currently track hand poses.  It tracks full bodies.

Josh Blake has gone the furthest in trying to implement a hand pose recognition system.  You might want to contact him about it.  http://groups.google.com/group/openkinect/browse_thread/thread/d89c0fda5ad0032d

  • Here is a project i  see talked about from codeplex a lot for your situtation op:

    http://kinectdtw.codeplex.com/

this codeplex project is one in which they created the gesture system for direct use with the kinect sdk  that records a gesture into a file but if you refine it to your  liking you could probably use it for comparision to another persons automatically saved gesture.

I going to take sign language class definitely so help me with my codeplex project here to finish (basic functionality):
    http://kinectmultipoint.codeplex.com
and i will help you with your project okay? I will even see if i can deal you in on adding accessibility features with kinect to my study island app which will allow sign language to be used to access certain features on a website using kinect.

P.S. know some sign language already but not much if you need help.
