iSCSI Drives Configuration RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have our iSCSI (HP MSA 2000 G2/MSA2312i) configured as follows below.  The iSCSI SAN has 12 - 1TB Drives.  I have the drives configured in 3 different groups (RAID5 each group) with 3 disks configured as Global Spares.

         -Volume01_00 (665 GB)
         -Volume01_01 (665 GB)
         -Volume01_02 (665 GB)
         -Volume02_00 (665 GB)
         -Volume02_01 (665 GB)
         -Volume02_02 (665 GB)
         -Volume03_00 (665 GB)
         -Volume03_01 (665 GB)
         -Volume03_02 (665 GB)

This is setup in a test lab.  I am wanting to setup a 4-Node Windows 2008 R2 Cluster with Hyper-V, a 2-Node Windows 2008 R2 Cluster for a custom application, and a 4-Node Windows Server 2012 Cluster with Hyper-V.  I do want to setup System Center Virtual Machine Manager in which I will also have to setup MS SQL.  I want to dedicate a disk group to each of the clusters.

Is this overkill?  Is there a better way to setup for each cluster?  Do I need to reconfigure the space with the disk groups to be conducive with a small quorum disk and a large shared volume disk in each group?  What would you do with the amount of space and in wanting to setup what I am setting up?
