Wondering if anyone has a good site that gives a tutorial on how to get started using reporting services and asp.net. I'm working in VB and trying to learn to A: create the RDLC report and B: using VB to create the report on a web application.

    Hi,

Based on my test, I still suggest to create a dataset in the App_Code folder. Then drag the store procedure from the server explorer. It looks like this.

Afterwards, we could use that dataset as the datasource for the local report.

Please feel free to let me know if I’ve misunderstood anything.

so i think I got some of the basics down. I have a report linked to a dataset and it places data into a table and/or textboxes. One thing I don't get is exactly how to: create multipaged reports where each page might have different report information for a single item. So say I want to have one page be a table of information and the next page be a chart, but it has to do this for all the unique things I pulled. so page 1 & 2 are for ID=1, page 3 & 4 are for ID=2, etc etc. I also seem to be having some major trouble with the datasets. I create one and I can see it there, but when I add, say a table, to the report, I cant associate the table with the dataset.

Are there any good books that would help with creating reports?

I am finding very little in depth information on the internet and even the MSDN site is not much help or the data is old and convoluted in nature. All the information I find is so basic it doesn't help much. It's all get data into a generic table which I can do, but I need help doing somewhat more complicated things. Also, not much information on using the report viewer and setting it up to get exports out correctly.

Is it possible to have a dataset setup that is NOT a file in the app_code folder? I am trying to use a specific SP I have to get some data on the report but if I try to use it as a dataset it doesn't work. It doens't think there are any columns to get. The same SP works fine anywhere else. Is it possible in the report file to just say use X datasource then assign that data source in the code behind of the aspx page and have it work?
