New partitions are not getting Created RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

    i need help with adding partitions on a table with Clustered Index.  I am doing

    Alter Partition Scheme my_partscheme NEXT USED (myfilegroupname);

    Alter Partition Function my_partfunction AS Split Range (New boundary value which is between last 2 partitions); The data type is int.

    This is getting executed succesfully. But the real problem is these boundary limits are being added to partition function. i can see these new boundary limits by scripting out the function to a new query window. But, i didn't see new partition being added when i check sys.partitions table.  i have a similar part scheme on other table with part function on date type which is succesfully altering function and adding partition as well. Dont know what might be the reason. please help.

  • Can you post the partition scheme DDL before/after the SPLIT?  You might try the custom SSMS partition details report (http://ssmspartcustomrpt.codeplex.com/) to see what it reports as the partitions.
