.Net Client Profile 3.5 SP1 Installation over existing RRS feed

  • Question

  • According to this link: http://windowsclient.net/wpf/wpf35/wpf-intro-client-profile.aspx in the Deployment Scenarios section, it says

"The .NET Framework Client Profile Preview is targeted for end-user configuration where no framework components are installed. Microsoft Windows Vista and Microsoft Windows Server 2008 already have parts of the .NET Framework installed, so client redistributable deployments on these platforms will not be possible."

So what about installing on XPSp2 or Win 7? These also have various versions of .NET Runtime pre-installed. What if a machine has .NET 2.0 or 3.0 Runtime, and need to install Client Profile 3.5SP1?

    Thanks,

  • For Win 7, your concern is moot. Win 7 installs .NET Framework 3.5 through SP1 as an integral part of the OS, so the .NET 3.5 Client Profile will not be needed.

For XP, the target machine will have to have .NET 2.0 already installed as 3.5 is an extension of 2.0, not a standalone framework.
