Remark in Small Basic RRS feed

  • Question

  • In other basics it is possible to add an unexecutable item to a line, or add a new line, with REM: [a comment]. This is to guide the user of a program about what is happening in this part, like REM: Set size of building.

How can this be inserted into Small Basic code please?

    Thanks.

  • Stevekir,

Just add an apostrophe then type your comment. As so:

'This is how you do a comment

  • The "B" in BASIC is for "beginner's" and BASIC was originally designed for only beginners, not professionals. Microsoft's Visual Basic was designed for professionals and Small Basic inherits its commenting syntax from VB.

You ask how to add REM statements. The answer is that Small Basic does not support REM statements. Did you intend to ask a different question?

  • jricestk showed how to insert a comment. That might be what you intended to ask about. The question however asks how to add a REM specifically.

Also, you said "other basics" and that made the question sound like a criticism of Small Basic. As you learn about other languages you will learn that there are usually multiple ways to do the same thing.
