Please fix my Blend RRS feed

  • I simply want to cry.... Y'all broke my Blend!

Silverlight 5 in VS and Blend 5 Trial … ImageSource no longer lets you select from a list of images in the project file.

Even if you add an image control to the artboard you are simply given the option for selecting new, which does nothing.  The source has to be set in code-behind or manually entered in xaml.  Which is a pain since I can't type worth a flip.

Silverlight 5/Blend 5 Trial the binding does not work.  It also does not work in an existing Blend 4 program that is on a computer upgraded to Windows 8.  See this post for details previously reported...

    http://social.expression.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/blend/thread/3da0b61e-cf0a-48c7-9f6e-30c07dfe6ad7

See if y'all hadn't made Blend so easy when it came to this stuff, we wouldn't be panicking when it stopped working!

Seriously though, I had no idea how much I used the binding wizard and having to manually bind everything is very time consuming.  And the image thing, well that's just wrong.

  • ALSO...

If you are working in a Silverlight project and don't have the default browser open when you hit F5 or go to Project > Run Project, an error occurs and Blend shuts down.  The browser opens and runs the application, but Blend still shuts down.

This happens in Blend 5 Trial and Blend 4 existing install with computer upgraded to Windows 8.  It opens fine in VS.

Not a huge problem, but I'm bad to forget and shut down the browser all together.

  • Hi Christine,

First I'm tracking a bug on the ImageSource issue and we'll try to address it in an upcoming release.  As far as the F5 Run issue I do have workaround for you on this one.  We have fixed this in Win8 but for the beta release of Win8 you will need to create a key in the registry of the Win8 computer.

    1. Create a regkey in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\IE.HTTP\shell\open.  Name is DontReturnProcessHandle and make it a String Value.  Leave the value as null.  That should fix the issue with Blend crashing on F5 Run and IE not being open.

    Note
Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you work carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

    Thanks,

    Erik (Microsoft Blend)

  • Thank you Erik!  I will try the work around when I can run everyone out of here so I don't make mistakes.

But Please Please Please don't forget the binding. :)

So is there any fix yet for the binding? Its kind of annoying not to be able to create any type of binding...

Also it seems that installing .NET framework 4.5 is what is causing the issue... At least it works on every machine that i've try that doesnt have 4.5 installed...
