  • The easiest way I know to do this, is to download SharePoint Designer 2010 (it is free) from:

    32 Bit- http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=16573
    64 Bit-http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=24309

Open up Designer, then open the site (generally http://mysharepointsite/ for local site)
Click on Workflows and create a new workflow. Attach it to the list you would like, and for the steps type this:

    Set field in Current Item
change field to Status by clicking it, and set value to "New".
Save the workflow, then click on workflow settings at the top of Designer. Change the options on this from Allow this Workflow to be Manually started, to Start Automatically when an item is created. Click save again, and then publish. Now go and test your workflow.

    Hope this resolves your problem.

  • Change the order. Set the fields value first then proceed with the submit to the main data connection.

    IE

On your submit button create your rule.

    New

    Action

    Add

    Set a fields value

Field:Status = Value:New <-- is this just text or is it a True/False boolean defining it as new? If it is a boolean change the Value: to True using insert function.

    Click Add again

    Submit using a data connection

Close the form: no prompt also if you want.
