Can we import 3DMax's models ( *.max files) in Expression Blend ? RRS feed

    I've wanted to create a simple 3D App in WPF, so I wanna to know we can import 3DMax's models ( *.max files) in Expression Blend ?
    If so , how can we do it ?

     I haven't used 3DMax but have done alot of work in Softimage XSI.
    You have addins that convert to .OBJ files, which Blend can import.
    I've seen 3rd party tool support coming for this but far as I know Blend can't work with .MAX files.

  • ZAM 3D imports .3ds files and exports to xaml which Blend (of course) understands ... one thing to keep in mind is that the texture files need to be right next to the .3ds files when you import them.

  • Yes, I have played with Andrej Benedik's libraries/utilities as well.

    One thing to note is that using his Reader3ds library ... will obviously introduce a dependency on that library. That is, that library doesn't convert to xaml, it just loads up a Viewport3D by reading the native .3ds file format.

    But as long as you are using Viewer3ds ... and are okay with how it converted the file ... you're golden.
