SQL Cluster 2008 R2 and Mirroring RRS feed

  • Question

  • Dear Sir,

I have a scenario where i have two sites A and B, i have a sql cluster 2008 r2 on site A where Sharepoint database have been created. i am planning to have disaster recovery between site A and site B i need to have data replication for sharepoint databases between sites, i am confuse if i can create a mirroring database in site B for all databases in site A but my point can we mirror databases running on SQL Clusters?  or if i create SQL disaster recovery between site A and B will cover for me the data replication in case of failure of site A.

    appreciate your help

  • Hi,

Yes, you can mirror databases between clusters. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-GB/library/ms191309(v=sql.105).aspx

  • Hello,

    No.
If you had configure mirror a database in high-safety mode with automatic failover. When  the node running the current principal server fails, automatic failover of the database begins within a few seconds. The database mirroring session fails over to the mirror server on the other cluster or unclustered computer, and the former mirror server becomes the principal server. Before the cluster has time to fail over, the loss of the principal server is detected by the mirror server, with the help of the witness. The mirror server rolls forward its database and brings it online as the new principal database as quickly as possible, When finishes failling ove, the mirror server synchronizes its database with the current principal database on active node.

  • dear Andrew thank you for your reply,

i have a doubt if a create a standalone server on Site B and i configure mirroring between site A and Site B, is this will affect the cluster, and in case of failure for any node in the cluster is this will affect the synchronization between cluster in site A and mirroring database in site B ?.
