How to Install Office 2003 PIA's when Office 2003 is not already installed RRS feed

  • Question

  • Our Excel application can run in office 2003 or office 2010.  We have tested that it works fine in office 2010 with only the office 2003 PIA's installed.  I've read that including both sets of PIA's in the installer and conditionally installing versions is not advised, and it would be simpler to just install the 2003 PIA's anyway.

But when office 2010 is the only office installed, the 2003 PIA installer refused to install.  Is there a way around this, like temporarily setting a registry key to make the PIA installer go ahead and install?

  • Hi Son,

Thanks for posting in the MSDN Form.

Did you try to download the PIA of Office 2003 from the http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=20923 and install it to your target machine?

    Have a good day,

  • Hi SoM

Can you explain how you managed to test the scenario of Office 2010 with (only) the Office 2003 PIAs? And I wouldn't expect the Office 2003 PIAs to work with Office 2010 - PIAs are version specific.

WHY do you feel your application wouldn't work with Office 2010 and its own set of PIAs?

And is this a VSTO application or something else?
