sort within Link Table Manager display RRS feed

  • Question

  • fairly superficial question - but thought I'd ask:  consolidating 4 silo separate databases. new single FE linking to 4 BEs.

The link table manager intermingles the tables alphabetically - even though I can manually sort them by separate back end file in the navigation pane.

bit of a pain to pick thru the table list to select those tables for the link - and then repeat 4 times.  doesn't help having such a cramped window to work in.  Repeating 4 times is understandable but the jumble of the organization by alpha rather than by BE is the issue.

I can consolidate the back end files....which is easy to do - though it makes some of the tech managers wary as then somewhat harder for them to know 'their' tables (management issues we won't elaborate on.....).

I can live with it - since linking won't be frequent once we get past this development phase.

Not really looking for a code solution.... is there any way/hope to organize the display in the Link Table Manager so each BE's tables are grouped together? …..  am in 2013 edition in case this area has changed since.....

  • Sounds like you are going to be happy with the new Linked Table Manager that was just released a few weeks ago in Office 365 subscription.

  • Do have O365 subscription - but presume this is Office/Access 2019 edition and the current user is at 2013 - - and so I always worry about developing in a newer edition.  But will take a look.  I found a link on the topic and I see a sort by table type i.e. Access v Excel v etc.....though not yet for sort by path/BE name ….but I'm new to this version.
