  • I am curious to know what thinking led to this question.  Why would you guess that SQL was involved in voice calls in any way?

Are you asking about doing this on a phone, or are you asking about using your computer's microphone and speaker, like Skype?

  • Hello Ahron,

    VOIP and SQL?

Structured Query Language is a database language, how do you think you can use it for voip?

can I use fedex to send some udp packages? No? I can't? :O I'm disapointed, they were telling me any size of package :(

Sry I was distracted... Maybe you can use sql as switchboard for the ips... what do you think should be the task of a database in your case? Or do you want to implement a voice mailbox?

  • There's certainly no easy way to do that.  The problem is that there has to be a server involved somewhere.  When you use Skype, you're contacting Microsoft's Skype servers.  All of the other subscribers have logged in there, too, so the server can go contact them.  The server funnels the packets back and forth.

For regular voice, there also has to be a server somewhere that can transition to a plain-old telephone line.  When you are a Vonage customer, your computer contacts Vonage's servers, and they cross over to telephone wires to place voice calls.  They also know what other Vonage customers have directly logged in, so they can connect you without going to a telephone line.

If you are a VOIP customer, then your VOIP provider probably has an API you can use to place calls.  But there's nothing built-in, because Windows doesn't come with a telephone service.
