internal ip address RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have an ubuntu vm which exposes a REST web service. I also have a web site ("azure web sites") that consumes this service. When the site uses the public dns / ip of the VM there is no problem. But this does not work with the internal ip. Is it expected? What is the efficient way to communicate between a VM and an "azure web site"?

  • Hello Yaron,

Yes your results are expected. If you use internal endpoint to communication between machines insides Azure DC however there is exception to Windows Azure Websites. You would need to expose an external endpoint in your Windows Azure VM to connect from Windows Azure Websites or any other external website.

  • thanks.

this means that an azure website may result in big networking costs if it needs to communicate intensively with a db. Am I right? Is there a recommendation to mitigate such costs?
