Getting list of changesets eligible for merge can be very slow. RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have several different branches and depending on which branches I select, getting the list of changesets eligible for the merge either takes under 5 seconds or takes approximately two minutes.  It does not seem to matter whether there are 10 or 40 changesets eligible for the merge. During this two minutes our TFS server is using less than 20% of its CPU.  Any ideas on how to speed this up?  Each branch contains 16 sub-folders with a total of approximately 6000 source files spread across them.  Most changesets involve files from multiple sub-folders.

  • Make sure you have the most recent version of TFS installed that you can.  If you have 2005, upgrade to SP1.  Better yet, upgrade to 2008, then install 2008 SP1 when it's released (very shortly).

  • I am currently running 2005 TFS with SP1.  We will upgrade to 2008 but it may not be for a while.

  • Has the full version of Team Foundation Services 2008 been released yet?  If not, when will it be released?  Our company has a policy of not using beta releases for key applications.
