Metro Style App RRS feed

Answers

  • Hi

Can I convert my VC++ exe to metro style application?
    Not automatically, no.

Your best approach is to refactor your existing application so that its "business logic" is contained in C++ classes that are independent of the GUI (WinForms, MFC, or whatever you are using).

This business logic can then be re-used in your Metro application.

There is no Start menu in Windows 8; just the Start screen.

Metro apps can only be installed from the Windows store. When they are installed they will receive a tile on the Start screen.

If you wish, you can have both the Desktop and Metro versions of your app installed at the same time. They will have separate entries on the Start screen.

  • Sorry, I meant Start Screen only.

I don't want Metro version of my app. I just want to give a tile to my desktop app on the start screen.

    Is it possible?

When you install a desktop app, it will receive a "tile" on the Start screen. It is just a plain tile, not a live tile like a Metro app.

If you do not have an installer, you can also just right-click your executable icon in Windows Explorer and select "Pin to Start".

  • Yes it's just a plain tile.

Can I change this tile to a live tile like metro app?

    No. This is not possible.
