VS2013 Update 3 RC XAML Designer report "RemotingException" when open a Windows 8.0 Store Apps XAML UI

    Question

  • VS2013 Update 3 RC XAML Designer report "RemotingException" when open a Windows 8.0 Store(WinRT) App XAML UI.

It's OK when open a Windows 8.1 Store App XAML UI. (And VS2013 Update 2 RTM's OK totally for 8.0 and 8.1 apps.)

I'm running Windows 8.1 Update 1 Professional English with all the latest updates till 12th July.

    Please be noted. Thanks.

  • I tried but could not reproduce this. Does it occur with every app you try opening?

NOTE: If I ask for code, please provide something that I can drop directly into a project and run (including XAML), or an actual application project. I'm trying to help a lot of people, so I don't have time to figure out weird snippets with undefined objects and unknown namespaces.

  • Yes. How did u try reproduce?

P.S.: By "open" I mean double-click the XAML file under a project(Windows 8.0) in the Solution Explorer of Visual Studio. I uninstalled Update 3 RC and repaired Update 2, the designer is OK now. Maybe it's a Update 3 RC bug?

  • It likely is a bug in Update 3 RC. Please post exact reproduce steps.

  • repro:

    1) just a normal Windows 8.0 Store project created by Visual Studio 2012 (as VS2013 cannot create 8.0 Store App but open),

    2) open it in VS2013 Update 3 RC,

    3) double-click the .xaml file in the Solution Explorer to open it with the xaml designer,

    4) should see the exception on the xaml designer.

BTW: it must be a 8.0 store app

  • Hey Jack,

Can you please try to delete the contents of the folders at the following locations and then try if you can reopen the project and the xaml file ?

    C:\Users\{user}\AppData\Local\Microsoft\VisualStudio\12.0\Designer\ShadowCache.

    C:\Users\{user}\AppData\Local\Microsoft\VisualStudio\12.0\Blend\

We would appreciate it if you can respond with whether this fixed your issue or not

  • Hey Jack,

Could I know if you have used your VS2013 U2 to open your Windows 8.0 Store app before you upgrade to VS2013 Update3?

  • It was vs 2013 update 3 RC.

NO problem with update 3 RTM. Thanks.
