A monkey could tell my.visualstudio.com sucks RRS feed

  • Question

  • Who dreamed up this half-witted mess? The old MSDN portal was extremely well-organized and gave a perfect overview of the broad range of products available for download. You could quickly and easily find anything you wanted and you could browse the content without signing in, quickly checking if something new had arrived. The new MSDN portal at my.visualstudio.com is a total disaster. Which should be obvious to anyone with half a brain.

  • Dear prathaprabhu,

The page on which this thread was posted can be reached by clicking the link "Site Feedback" from the download page.  Why should site feedback such as Mats' posting not be posted here?

Incidentally, I concur wholeheartedly with his complaints, if not necessarily with the way he phrased them. Microsoft management urgently needs a refresher course in the meaning of the phrase "if it ain't broke, don't fix it."

    Dear JoeMorris,

You are always welcome to post your feedback on this forum, though it would be good to address the Visual Studio Subscription team directly from the above link.

    Thanks,

  • Dear Prathaprabhu,

Thank you for your kind advice. Unfortunately, it's not useful.

What you find at https://www.visualstudio.com/subscriptions/support is a number of FAQs and two buttons.

Using those two buttons, you can report a number of common issues. You're not asked to provide feedback.

It's hardly likely that my.visualstudio.com has anything to do with feedback.

That's also obvious to anyone with half a brain.

    Dear Mats,

You can "Submit Online Request" and leave your feedback.

  • Dear Prathaprabhu,

I should NOT click "Site Feedback"? Right there in the footer? No, of course not. How could I? Silly me.

Instead, I should find https://www.visualstudio.com/subscriptions/support and click "Submit Online Request".

Who made that up? The same guy who replaced the old MSDN portal with the half-witted mess at my.visualstudio.com?

By the way, there is no option called "Submit Online Request" at https://www.visualstudio.com/subscriptions/support

I guess he forgot. I guess he wasn't interested in feedback.

    Your second URL actually works:
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/getsupport?oaspworkflow=start_1.0.0.0&wf=0&wfName=capsub&productkey=visualstudio&locale=en-us&ccsid=636062739670462438

I guess I should bookmark that page.

  • Dear Prathaprabhu,

Thank you for the screenshot. Unfortunately, it proves you are wrong.

In order to take that screenshot, you selected United States as the country, then you switched back to "Select country..." You can also select a couple of other countries in America, like Canada and Mexico.

If you select countries in other parts of the world, you won't get the option "Submit Online Request".

Your answer shows that Microsoft has a half-witted feedback process matching the half-witted mess at my.visualstudio.com. Thank you for making that clear to everyone reading this.

Like I said, the new MSDN portal at my.visualstudio.com is a total disaster. If they respect their customers, Microsoft should give them a portal they can use, like the old MSDN portal. It was extremely well-organized and gave a perfect overview of the broad range of products available for download. You could quickly and easily find anything you wanted and you could browse the content without signing in, quickly checking if something new had arrived. None of that is possible in the new MSDN portal at my.visualstudio.com.

Microsoft should fix that as soon as possible.

  • I agree with Mats.

New MSDN subscriber site is complete mess and shame on Microsoft who allowed and came-up with this kind of solution.

Managers and team who came up with this idea should be let go.

Old site was very well organized and easy to filter downloads to locate exactly whatever was needed.

Open old site back and do not migrate users forcefully to new non useful site.

  • I agree completely - this site is garbage. And it doesn't get better as time passes - they already had it for a while. Microsoft quality and reliability...lol.

  • I also agree- the my.visualstudio portal is terrible. Besides it being a disaster to navigate, making horrendous use of screen real estate (waste of white space), virtually borderless, I now can no longer select the details (which is also the ONLY place I can find with the checksums) for multiple products. Before I could display the details of multiple products (downloads) at a time and copy/paste the entire screen which gave me all the checksums. Now I have to select products one by one which takes forever! What the heck, this is really annoying and time consuming!!?? And why is there no single file somewhere which has ALL the checksums for ALL the products for a subscriber? It is obvious to anyone who using this site, that the previous MSDN site was far, far better organized and so exactly WHY (I'm really asking here, why?) would Microsoft change to this?

I can only surmise (and now believe) that this is an attempt to make things MORE DIFFICULT and less convenient for us subscribers, with the goal being  that we are encouraged to only download the very minimum number of products and license keys. This is completely unacceptable, we pay a lot of money for this so that we can develop/learn Microsoft products, so that we may purchase them and some us here actually evangelize these products - is this not great for Microsoft.

So what is really going on here? Why are we being ignored? I really do feel ignored.

And posting feedback? Well that seems to get us nowhere because the my.visualstudio site has existed for quite some time and I honestly do not see any of our concerns addressed. By the way 'boiler plate' responses to our concerns are unacceptable and simply serve to increase our level of frustration. I genuinely apologize if this sounds like a rant, but I am really frustrated here.
