web.config error- Internet Explorer Server Error in '/' Application. RRS feed

  • Hi Everyone,

    I am a newbie taking a Expression Web 4.0 training courses. 

    I am using a web.config file in Expression Web 4.0 for a website login creation, when I goto preview the page (f12) I get the following error in both IE 11.0 & Chrome. 

    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Configuration Error

    Description: An error occurred during the processing of a configuration file required to service this request. Please review the specific error details below and modify your configuration file appropriately.

    Parser Error Message: It is an error to use a section registered as allowDefinition='MachineToApplication' beyond application level.  This error can be caused by a virtual directory not being configured as an application in IIS.

  • Is "snug as a bug" defined as a site in EW?  The web.config defining roleManager needs to be in the root (top directory) of the site.
