Can a metro app be launched from a backgroundtask? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

    I am trying to launch a metro app from a (timer triggered) background task of another metro app. Is this possible?

    I created 2 apps (AppLauncher and AppTarget) and declared a protocol "apptarget" for the AppTarget app.

    I use the below code in the timer triggered background task for AppLauncher app (assuming that the AppTarget app would be launched once the timer triggers the background task). But the AppTarget app is not launched as expected. The code launches the AppTarget app as expected when added to a button click event but not from a background task.

    await Launcher.LaunchUriAsync(
         new Uri(@"bgtasksample://"),
         new LauncherOptions()
         {
      DesiredRemainingView = Windows.UI.ViewManagement.ViewSizePreference.UseHalf
         });

    Thanks,

    Soorya

  • I wouldn't expect you to be able to launch a URI from the background.

    I have tried numerous times to do this but Win8 wont let me.

    I believe you can trigger another app using associations.
