Tight Coupling of DataServices RRS feed

  • Question

  • Currently if a LINQ provider wants to support IUpdatable they need to reference the System.Data.Services.dll assembly (and note that its an issue because of the different versions of .NET).  Any expectation in moving this interface to somewhere less bound to DataServices so that we don't have to be so tightly bound to Data Services?

The verison of IUpdatable that will ship in the first version of Astoria will be in System.Data.Services.dll. There are a couple of reasons to keep it there, at least for the time being, such as the fact that the interface has very specific expectations in semantics that go beyond what the interface alone can describe, and that we added it in an SP so we wanted to control the impact.

If feedback steers us in that direction we could potentially generalize this more in a future release, assuming we sort out all the related issues.
