Application.CalculateProject Hangs up my Domino Agent - What does CalculateProject Do? RRS feed

  • Question

  • My Domino scheduled agent syncronizes the tasks in MS Project files with corresponding project documents in a Lotus Notes database.  All the MS Project files run smoothly except for one particular project.  The code agent that runs the code hangs and does not complete and it does so while execcuting the Application.CalculateProject method (see http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb221531(office.12).aspx).  The method is documented as "calculates the active project".  I do know what the active project is, but I don't know what it means to calculate an active project.  Can someone help me?

Thanks in advance for your help.

  • Hi,

Calculating the project is what Project is meant to do - recalculating all start and finish dates of tasks, resource loads, costs, and what have you. Yes, it may "hang", not just in code but also when using it normally. Reasons can be a corrupted file or a file containing a circular link.

Moreover, is Project visible? If there is an error message, can you see it?

Some methods you can try to eliminate corruption can be foud in http://www.mvps.org/project/faqs.htm faq 43

As for circular links, eliminate all dependencies from and to summary tasks, that will eliminate the problem

    Hope this helps,
