Virtual machine with vhd in a different storage subscription RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi everyone. I have a question about the feasibility of having one virtual machine which runs under an azure subscription, but with one or few disks (vhd) under other different subscriptions. In this manner I could bill the computing resource to one subscription and the storage to another subscription and have two separate bills.

  • Microsoft Azure File Service (new service since 6 months). This is a high available out of the box service from Azure without a Windows/linux VM. I've just tested it and confirm that it is possible to use CIFS from different subscriptions....

  • Thank you Marcus. I'll make you a new tricky question: and if I connect a CIFS storage on that vm? As I know, I can connect several Azure CIFS Storage accounts to the same VM and have a repository for each account. Do you confirm that?

  • How are provisioning the CIFS storage?

If you are using Azure Files (I'm not a Linux expert, but as far as I am aware) providing the storage account is in the same region as the VM you can mount multiple account to multiple VMs.

See step 5 of the FAQ at http://blogs.msdn.com/b/windowsazurestorage/archive/2014/05/12/introducing-microsoft-azure-file-service.aspx .

If the initial query is answered I would appreciate if you could mark it as the answer.
