Importing bitmaps RRS feed

  • Question

  • Dear all,

In order to get good rendering in WPF or Surface application, graphics need to be vectorial.
I have the Expression Studio suite and try to use expression design.

Is there a way to import a bitmap in Expression design, then do some stuff and then export it to blen in order to use is as vector ?

Thnaks for the steps if any

  • Hi Serge,

You cannot easily use a bitmap as a vector, but you can combine the two.

Just by opening the bitmap file you can use it in Design and Export it in Blend.

To vectorize a photo, you can use the Trace option in Design.

This tries to find the edges in the bitmap and create shapes.

You can determine the details (and consequently numbers of vertices) of the result.

  • ok, I have a bitmap image in which I have a blue circle.

Then what I am interresting is only the blue circle, so for that I have use what you sugest as the Trace option from menu Object->Image->AutoTrace

Then I get a red line border with defined encore point all around by blue object, but then how can save that trace path ?

  • Hmm, to create a blue circle in ED using vectors try:

    1 - draw outer circle

    2 - draw inner circle

3 - select both circles then arrange > align centres

4 - use path operations to remove the inner circle from the outer circle

5 - the result should be a ring with fill area depending on the differences between the circles

6 - apply a fill to the new ring object
