windows 7 pro upgrade to windows 8 pro RRS feed

  • Question

  • When upgrading windows 7 home to windows 8 I have no problems keeping programs and files.  When migrating Windows 7 pro to windows 8 pro I haven't seen anyway of keeping programs, Is there any way around this?  is there a reason why there's a difference between the versions? (Id expect this issue to be the other way round!).  Also if a computer doesn't support secure bot can you still install windows 8 or would UEFI have problems?

Also I have a large number of clients who use Unix only bespoke software and have to be able to dual boot windows and Linux, how do I do that as with the way Microsoft have locked down windows 8 there seems to be issues, and because of the importance of the Linux software they need to keep Linux on the machine and several customers have said they will move over to Linux as ALL windows programs they use can be changed free, whereas the Linux software cant be replaced in a cost effective way.
