Developer License effective 31 days? Why? RRS feed

  • Question

  • So it prompted me to sign up for dev license and showed the end date one month from now.

    What happens then?

Do I have to kill the system for dev license to reset?

    What is going on?

  • Hi SL64,

The expiration date mentioned in the message box is specifically for a developer license to run metro apps. Basically, while you have a developer license installed on your machine, you can launch and run apps which have not been downloaded from the store. This license needs to be renewed every so often. Once the license expires, VS will prompt you to acquire a new one (just like the first time) – you don’t need to re-install or get another version of the tooling, additionally the license is free to renew.

    Hope this clears things up,

  • Hi,

You can renew the dev license when it expires. You do not need to reinstall the system. Thanks!

  • What is this license anyway?

Do I need it to run my code on my computer with visual studio?

  • Yes. You need the license in order to run and test your code.

  • Still unclear, why only 31 days??

When it goes retail, will I have to pay for it?

I do not want to feel like a tourist on my own system!!!

  • Thanks for explaining.

You must understand frustration in dealing with deadlines of other nature. Any more of this BS and it ruins creative side completely.
