Creating a MAPI listener to send out via SMTP RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi All,

We use a program in our office which uses a MAPI session to send email however since Outlook Express's departure, our replacement mail solution doesn't properly support MAPI and our accounting program's 'invoice email' function requires it.  It's not an option for us to move to 'Outlook' so, instead, I would like to write a handler application to receive these emails to be sent 'via MAPI' and then send them using SMTP directly.

I've found many references to using MAPI to send a message, but I want the opposite of this; to listen for messages being sent via MAPI and push them out through SMTP.

Basically, I need to be able to set my application as the default windows MAPI handler and listen for emails; the rest (actually sending the email out) is childs play.

  • It sounds like you need an Exchange Server.
