Error with Reporting Services Execution Account RRS feed

  • Question

  • We currently have SQL 2016 deployed and Reporting Services setup and operational. The web reports/forms have images that are pulled from a remote Windows server all of which is within the same Active Directory domain. However, we have one minor issue when it comes to the Execution Account within Reporting Services.

When we leave the execution account field blank and run the web report that has the image, the web form loads but does not show the embedded image that's needed for the specific record.

However, if we add the execution account and then run the web report again, it fails and we get the following error message: "The report server has encountered a configuration error. Logon failed for the unattended execution account. (rsServerConfigurationError). Log on failed. Ensure the user name and password are correct. (rsLogonFailed)". If we add the execution account to the local administrators group, then the report loads along with the required image. We have added the execution account to the Local Security Policy "Allow Logon Locally".

The issue is we do not want the execution account to be added to the local Windows Administrators group on the server.

Thx in advance for any suggestions.

  • Hi Indianboy008

You don’t have to add the execution account to local Windows Administrators group, all the permission you need to add is only the read-only access with network connection permissions.

Also the execution account should not the same as the services account.

Here are some links about how to configure the execution account and add permission:

Configure the Unattended Execution Account (SSRS Configuration Manager)

Configuring SQL Reporting Services user permission

    Hope it can help you.
