23 character limit when defining a multilevel list. RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello All,

    Problem
    I'm having an issue with the multilevel list where I need to go up to 32 characters in the prefix when defining a multilevel list.
    The GUI appears that it would let me go that high but is seems to only allow 23 characters.

    Question
    Is there a way around this limitation either by circumventing the GUI or some other option?

    This limitation just came to light today and is one of the last problems in a very large project, in other words I'm stuck and I hope this silver bullet doesn't destroy the project which has been 4 months in the making :(
    Right now the only acceptable solution is to exceed the 23 character limit, my alternative is to create our own list logic which is the very last thing I'd like to do for obvious reasons.

    Please help!

    Thanks in advance,

  • Answered my own question.  I needed to attack it via code.

    Here's a snippet for anyone else that might fall into this problem.

     ListTemplate list = app.ActiveDocument.ListTemplates.Add(true, name);
     list.ListLevels[1].NumberFormat = "BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH 1%.";
     list.ListLevels[1].NumberStyle = WdListNumberStyle.wdListNumberStyleArabic;

    Thank you,
