Azure VM unexpected shutdown RRS feed

  • My vm has been randomly shutting itself off 1 to 2 times a day for the past week.  Any help is appreciated.  

    I found this message in the event log.

    The process C:\Windows\system32\svchost.exe (VM-SPDEV) has initiated the shutdown of computer VM-SPDEV on behalf of user NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM for the following reason: Other (Planned)
     Reason Code: 0x80000000
     Shutdown Type: shutdown
     Comment: 

    I've seen a few other questions on this so here is extra information requested

    Deployment ID: 66d318c08a9a47bda8cc36919d87a42b

    SubscriptionID: 7b8699ef-7692-4e5e-bc8a-cf8c5948b815

    LiveID: This account

    Happening: weekdays between 11:00 am MST and 7:00 pm MST

    Guest OS: Server 2012

    Image: VS 2013 image that has been modified to suit  my needs

    Modifications: AD installed/configured, SQL Express, VS 2013 RC, SharePoint 2013, various development tools.

  • For anyone who runs across this we figured out the issue.  One of our guys had a powershell script running on a different machine that was shutting the first one off.

    Thanks to the Microsoft support guys to helping us review the logs and figuring this out.

  • It's likely to be caused by the VM size.
    you could check it and then consider to enlarge it.

  • It's already and extra large and I don't see what the size of the vm has to do with it shutting down unexpectedly
