Bing Map "Find Location" Rest Service not able to find "london, uk" on Firefox RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi All,

I am facing issues with Bing Map's Rest Services - Find a location:-

If i try to find "london uk" on firefox, I don't get any response, though its working fine on IE.

Is there anything special I need to do for Firefox.

    Please check here - http://www.bingmapsportal.com/isdk/ajaxv7#RESTServices1

  • London UK works fine in that sample. Also, if using the rest services be sure to encode your queries as documented here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg427601.aspx Also, here is a good blog post with tips for the REST services: http://www.bing.com/blogs/Site_Blogs/b/maps/archive/2013/02/14/bing-maps-rest-service-tips-amp-tricks.aspx

  • Sorry, my mistake.. Please try with '"london, uk". I forgot the very important coma between london and uk.

    Doesn't work on firefox.

  • Again, that works fine for me. I'm based in the UK and have a large number of customers using the REST services. London is a pretty common search and this is the first time I've had anyone have issues finding it using REST. Note, if you are using Bing Maps V7 AJAX control you don't need to use the REST services. Instead using the Search Module which wraps the REST services for you and exposes it as a JavaScript class: http://www.bingmapsportal.com/isdk/ajaxv7#SearchModule2

  • Somehow its not working for me, I am based in US. The Rest service is very finicky, especially on Firefox. It returns result for "london uk" & "london,uk" but not for "london, uk". The service callback is not called when you search either some invalid address with a trailing space like "CCXXX " or some special characters "!@#".

Since I was using Bing Maps V7 AJAX control, I have started using Search Module, its far better and works almost perfectly. Don't know why I didn't consider it at the first place, anyhow Thanks for suggesting it.

  • What you can do is set the IP address to 127.0.0.1 which will take your location out of the query and force the service to search the full data set in Bing Maps. This is documented in the tips and tricks blog post I mentioned earlier: http://www.bing.com/blogs/Site_Blogs/b/maps/archive/2013/02/14/bing-maps-rest-service-tips-amp-tricks.aspx
