Session Management in Sharepoint 2010 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi All,

I am analyzing options to persist large amount of user data in the session state for a Sharepoint 2010 application.

I have few approaches  to clarify :-

      • Approach 1 : I know session state functionality is disabled by default in sharepoint. can we still use underlying ASP.Net mode for session by only making changes in web application web.config file ( enable session state  = true, Session type = Custom). I am not planning to enable session state service ( ASP.Net session state service) . Is this approach feasible ??
      • Approach 2 : If i enable the session state, Can i use custom Session state provider  ( ex : App Fabric, NCAche) rather than default SQLSessionStore ( default for sharepoint) ?

Please provide comments on the mentioned approaches and suggest if ant better ones.
