Noob questions for Bing Map RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi, I am new to bing map web controls. I would like to use it for our webgl apps and I have a few questions to ask:

    - Does it come with a viewer that renders 3d into webgl (not dom) ?

    - Alternatively does it provide mapping data only (no rendering) so we can render it ourselves if needed to ?

    - Does it have npm package and typescript definitions ?

    - Are there any sample codes for new starters ?

    Thank you very much!

Answers

    • It doesn't provide with a 3D webgl viewer, but there is a good open source 3D webgl map control that uses Bing Maps by default: https://cesiumjs.org/
    • You can access the map tiles and use them in a custom map control, geocoding and routing data can also be accessed from their respective services, the raw map data for vector rendering is not exposed through an API.
    • The Bing Maps V8 web control has npm and TypeScript, but not 3D webGL support like you are asking for. CesiumJS has an npm package and I belive TypeScript definitions as well (possibly through DefinatelyTyped)
    • CesiumJS has a bunch of code samples: https://cesiumjs.org/Cesium/Build/Apps/Sandcastle/
