Visual Studio 2012 ShadowCache disc space.

    General discussion

  • Hi,

I've read a few posts on this that are a year old but none of them appear to have any final conclusion.

I am developing in Visual Studio 2012 and getting a disc space is dangerously low warning form Windows (8.1).  Every time I have received this I have have found my ShadowCache folder container over 30GB of data. After removing the contents of the folder VS continues to behave exactly the same.

Is there any further information on this? I'm only running a 128GB SSD and a 30GB sitting around no reason isn't very helpful.

We have 3 other devs on the projects. One is getting the same issue and 2 are not getting anything in this folder full stop.

We are also getting "There is not enough virtual memory available. Please save your work and restart {0}." a lot as well in Visual Studio on nice specced machines running at about 40% memory.

I guess they are not related but worth mentioning.

    Thanks for any enlightenment.

    Oli

  • If anyone knows about this I would appreciate an answer.  I am experiencing the same issue using VS 2013 Ultimate on Windows 8.1.

I installed onto my D drive which has 1 TB of space.  My C drive is only a 128 GB SSD drive. I tried restarting but am continuing to get this message.
