Read CO2 sensor data via serial port RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm not sure what forum category this question falls in.

I'm developing a Windows desktop application using Windows Forms technology.  I have a 16-port FTDI USB to COM Adapter Hub for RS232 serial ports (StarTech brand).   Each port is connected to a Carbon Dioxide (CO2) sensor.

I need to read the data from each sensor and save the data in a csv file.  I'm able to open the COM port now.  But I'm still unable to read the data and write it to a text file.  I'm using Windows 10 OS and Visual Studio 2015 / VB.Net to write the app.

I've decided to use Windows Forms instead of Universal Windows Platform since users would like to see the results on their desktop with line graphs using the csv files as data input.

Appreciate any help on how to do this.

  • Sigh.  Been trying to read sensor data (with sensor connected to my pc via USB) but unsuccessful.  I've found a lot on YouTube showing reading sensor data using Arduino.  Wondering if this is the only way to go in reading sensor data in real time.
