Use WPP .TMF files with Windows Performance Analyzer GUI (WPA) RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

A few days ago I stumbled upon a question (http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/wptkv5/thread/f4419342-4196-4e39-8e01-a33a8c412fc9) which was bothering me too quite a while, which is still not solved.

It’s about viewing .TMF files which were generated by WPP in a windows 64bit kernel mode driver.

Basically I followed the nice walkthrough at http://www.devproconnections.com/content1/topic/wpp-tracing-in-visual-c-2010-projects-125664/catpath/visual-studio-2010, which gave me the results from tracefmt.exe in a textfile including function names, event flags etc…

Because i try to analyze a sporadic performance issue and handling the (very big) textfile isn’t that easy i want to use the nice GUI of the Windows Performance Analyzer.

For a still unknown reason I am not able to get any information other than the timestamp into the WPA.

Is there a tool like tracefmt which can put all the function names and other tracing information into the .etl file for WPA, so that I can view the function names and custom flags there too?

I know that this question would be a better fit for the "Windows Performance Toolkit (WPT) v5"-Forum, but that Forums seems rather quiet.

    Thanks,

      Gerhard
