MySite is created in wrong farm RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I´m currently configuring trusted mysite host for a customer with 3 different SharePoint farms, one farm in each country where the customer has employees. I´ve setup trusted mysite host locations in each farm and created audiences to resolve each users mysite host.

For users that already have their mysite created in their "home" farm, this works perfectly. My question is, if a user without a mysite clicks the mysite link so that the users mysite is created by sharepoint, will sharepoint use the audiences to determine where to create the mysite? Or will it always be created in the farm where the user clicks the mysite link? A user from country A could be on a business trip to country B when he clicks the mysite link the first time.

In my case the mysite is always created in the farm where the user is logged in so it seems SharePoint ignores the audience when creating new mysites. Is this a configuration error or the way it is supposed to work in SharePoint?

  • Hi Kronander,

To prevent individual users from creating multiple My Sites, configure trusted My Site host locations. When specified, users are redirected to the single My Site host location that is intended for their accounts regardless of where they are browsing when they attempt to create or access their My Sites. This feature ensures that each user can create only one My Site in an organization.

In my opinion, this is an expected behavior, you can suggest customer creating his/her My Site before travel to another country if he/she doesn’t have a My Site.

    Thanks,

  • Hi

i think its SharePoint Default behavior, it follows/checks which UPA the web application is using and accordingly creates my site.

you can also make use of cross farm UP service if required.

    Thanks.... ________________ Baba

  • Hi,

I cannot use cross farm UP since the bandwidth between the farms is to small and users access to MySite will be frequent. Can someone verify that this is the default behavior in SharePoint?

  • Hi Rock,

From my point of view I think it would be more expected that SharePoint creates the new mysite in the correct farm (using the audiences) since mysite, profile replication etc. wont work if the audience is pointing to the wrong farm. But if this is the way SharePoint works, we´ll simply have to deal with it.

    Thanks!
