Make a task critical RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi all,

I want to force an individual task as critical. How would I do this?

I want to be able to filter 'critical' tasks so that all the critical are displayed (including the one i forced as critical)

    Cheers

  • Hi Nicholaswan,

Critical tasks are calculated by the Project looking at the 0 Slack values, critical path may change as the schedule progresses; having said that we cannot mark any task "Critical" using default Critical field. Alternative is create a Custom Field in Text1- Business Critical Tasks as Look-up Type with "Yes" "No" values. You can use this field to mark Business Critical Tasks as Yes.

Then you can create a filter [ View - Filter - New Filter] as Business Critical define it as - Field Name - Critical equals Yes OR Text1 equals Yes.

This will list all Critical Tasks and your Business Critical Tasks.

  • Nicholaswan,

In addition to Sapna's comments on how Project works, you also should consider changing your project plan so that that the task you want to be on the critical path is on the critical path (defined as 0 Slack).  It is not true that "important" tasks are the same as "critical" in the sense of project scheduling.

  • I tried this and it did not make the task critical what so ever.

  • amdavis,

This is a really old thread. I suggest you start a new thread and explain exactly what you have and what you are trying to do. The more details you provide the better. Then we'll be more likely to offer help.
