Upgrading to Windows Server 2008, SQL Server 2008, do I need to buy a new server? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm upgrading form Server 2003 to Server 2008 on an old HP Server.  This is only an internal server and we have no problems with it, but I'm wondering if Server 2008 needs more CPU/Memory than 2003?

Also have to update to SQL Server 2008 from 2005 on that same server, does that need anymore juice if it's working fine right now?

EDIT: It's an Intel Xeon 3.0 GHz processor with 1.5 GB of ram.  I don't think I'd see any performance hit.  Maybe just improvements.
