Win 8.1 Preview USB driver installation RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have Windows 8.1 Preview 32-bit Installed and running

I have 2 versions of USB driver certified and published at Microsoft Driver Catalog (Windows Update)

    1. Old one is dated as of 2010, v6.32.x.x  and was certified for Win XP and Vista

Then MS automatically extended certification up to Win 7 and Win 8

    2. New version of the driver is dated as of 2013, v8.32.y.y and it was certified

for Win 7 and Win 8

Issue is about: when I plug USB device into USB port of Win 8.1 computer I have got

driver automatically installed from Windows Update. BUT - it is old driver (p1).

I would expect to see driver certified for Win 8 be installed on Win 8.1

Sure, I can manually install correct (new one) driver on Win 8.1, but it may be not good for end-users

Where is the point of this problem to fix?

  • You are getting the old driver instead of the new driver is probably because the old driver is a more specific 4-part HWID match vs. the newer one which might be a 2-part match. Could you provide more details such as specifics of the exact drivers being mentioned.

  • Both drivers (inf files) have exactly same VID and PID (usb\vid_097e&pid_0036).

And the list of drivers available for the device could be seen at:

    http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/site/Thanks.aspx?id=140

and type in "MP36" into the search field.
