Is there any way we can add Bluetooth SPP support for Windows Store apps?

    Question

  • Hi

I'm aware of several threads on this like:

    • http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/tailoringappsfordevices/thread/6bdaa46f-fa49-4854-a97b-81b003ef3495
    • http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/wdk/thread/b2924065-1627-400d-9b81-6990c53e1652

However, I really really really want to release a Sphero App for Windows Store.

I have developed and demoed it using a hack which uses a Windows Service which hosts WCF and uses the excellent 32feet library to allow Bluetooth SPP communication

    YouTube video - http://youtu.be/V7HnMYumn6g

Obviously this is not going to work on an RT device like a Surface and obviously it's not going to pass marketplace certification as-is.

I've got Sphero code working now on WP8, on Android 2.2 and above using MonoDroid, on iOS3 and above using MonoTouch and the iOS ExternalAccessory API.

Please can someone assist getting this working through an official route on my favorite device platform - Windows RT.... please....

I'm a C# dev - if this requires C++ driver level code, can someone assist?

If not on this forum, where can I log this as a WinRT request and then try to get people to upvote it as a very important feature request?

  •           SPP for Windows Store apps is really needed to interact with Bluetooth devices like helicopters, cars, .... It would be enought to port the WP8 implementation to Windows 8 Store Apps this way we would have portable code. Also please let us know if using C++ we can implement a Windows Runtime Component for Windows Store apps. i still cannot believe that WP8 is ahead of Win8 on this matter.

  • Hi Jan,

We cannot comment on future versions. We are aware that many people would like this, and if you have scenarios that need this that haven't yet been posted we would love to know what they are.

  • I want to port over xcsoar to wp8 and windows 8 and there are hundreds of aviation apps we will never see without this basic functionality. I want to integrate with gps units, adsb receivers and more. how can windows be a viable platform without this basic support?

  • I have the Sphero 2.0 and I think they should make it possible to use a Sphero from a computer. If they do they could probably make a deal with Sphero to sell them like Apple.
