    Hi

Without using Azure, what methods would one use to keep large amounts of data in synch between a cloud based application and mobile devices, when webAPI returns rowsets in the millions etc.

    Hi,

    returns rowsets in the millions

That already sounds like a less ideal approach. Is this a constant stream of information or you're pulling millions of rows of data to the mobile device? If the latter's the case then drop that scenario and go for something else.

There's local storage/cache on the mobile device but that's usually also limited. Only send the data over the wire which is needed to perform the actions you want/need.

This is an initialization of the mobile device so it only happens once, after this the Adds/Deletes/Updates are minor and easily handled using normal WEB API methods, just the initial load is large, and the data needs to be on the mobile device in order for it to work in scenarios when the device is offline.

    Hi,

is it somewhat stale data? If so you could explore to bundle the information with the installation of the application itself.
