Excel 2016 version 15.39 Crashes on launching a Add-On in MAC OS RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi Team,

Excel 2016 latest version 15.39 crashes on launching our application (which is an add on), launched from Excel.

    Functionality:

As per the functionality, any clicks on the  buttons related to Add-on, launches a MAC Client application, then the control goes to the Cocoa application and Excel application will get into suspended state. In earlier versions of Excel 2016 (Until Version 15.36), it used to prompt users to wait in the suspended state or quit. If user chooses to wait then excel will continue to remain in passive state till it gets back control from Cocoa application. However in the new versions, Excel quits without prompting users while it is still in suspended state resulting in application crash.

Note:  Issue occurs after updating to the latest Excel version 15.37 to 15.39 and in Previous versions of Excel (Until 15.36) it was working fine.

Can someone please help us to resolve this issue.

  • Hello,

Could you reproduce the issue using other machine with same Office version? Would it work again if you uninstall the updates?

  • Hi Sowndarya,

Could you share us how you developed Add-On? Is it developed by Office.js?

Based on your description, I am not sure whether you developed by Office.js.

It would be helpful if you could share us more information about your Add-on like developing language and template.

    Best Regards,

    Edward

  • Hi Celeste,

This Add on is developed using VBA and it launches a COCOA application.  So we can test it only on MAC machines.

Yes it works fine with Microsoft Excel version 15.36.

    Thanks

    Sowndarya Bala.

  • Hi Sowndarya,

    Thanks for more information.

It seems your issue is related with Office and Cocoa application.

To be honesty, we are not familiar with Cocoa, and we do not have such environment to make a test.

If possible, I would suggest you revert your Office to 15.36, and wait for next update to check whether this issue is still existing.

If this is urgent, I will suggest you contacting the Microsoft professional support so that our engineers can work closely with you to troubleshoot this issue.

If the support engineer determines that the issue is the result of a bug the service request will be a no-charge case and you won't be charged.
