Use of JDK 8 with Xamarin Android RRS feed

Our systems administrator requires us to remove JDK 7 for security reasons.

I just tested with JDK 8 and our (quite large) Xamarin Android app builds and runs fine with JDK 8.

Are there any problems we can expect when using JDK 8?

If there are no problems, would it be possible for the Xamarin guys to update the recommendation "It is also important that v1.7 of the Java JDK is installed" at http://developer.xamarin.com/guides/android/gettingstarted/installation/windows/manualinstallation/

I've been asked the same thing. It would be nice to get an official clarification to this JDK 7 or 8 question - until then I'm leaving JDK 7 installed as documentation suggests.

Previously we had some build issues with JDK 8, a recent forum post suggests that this still might be the case. https://forums.xamarin.com/discussion/47490/do-not-use-java-jdk-1-8-when-generating-android-bindings-in-xamarin-studio

Building with JDK8 makes the app not work on older Android OS versions.

We are using JDK 8 now for some time and we do not have any issues. I had a reply from Xamarin support saying the same: "using JDK 8 now for 3 months, no issues".

We are targetting Android 4, my device runs Android 4.3 (not sure we have tested with a device running a lower Android 4.x version).
