VSTO30 does not show in VS 2008 Pro RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have had VS 2008 sitting dormant on my computer for awhile. I am fairly sure I have even built some MS Office add-ins using VSTO. But when I started up VS2008 today, there is nothing in the Project Types relative to Office. I re-downloaded and installed VSTO30.exe and the installation appeared to go fine, but restarting VS2008 did not produce anything in the IDE that looked like it relates to VSTO. Can someone help me figure out what is going wrong? I am a newbie, thanks.

  • Hi Bill

Is Office installed on your machine? If yes, which version(s)?

In the VS file menu, New / project, look in the tree branch for your language of choice (which is it BTW?). Do you see a folder "Office"?

During your trouble-shooting have you tried running a "repair" of VS 2008?

FWIW VSTO30.exe isn't going to install the "tools" into your IDE. That's part of what's needed to deploy a solution...
