Max depth image resolution? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Is it possible to get the resolution of depth data higher than 640x480? (from the SDK code below it looks that's as high as it goes)

    Can anyone explain what the purpose of DepthImageFormat.Undefined is for?

    namespace Microsoft.Kinect
    {
       public enum DepthImageFormat
       {
           Undefined = 0,
           Resolution640x480Fps30 = 1,
           Resolution320x240Fps30 = 2,
           Resolution80x60Fps30 = 3,
       }
    }

  • 640x480 is as high as it goes. That's the physical resolution limit of the depth camera.

    The Undefined value is not really used by the Kinect runtime. It serves as a placeholder for the type's default value. If your program has a variable of type DepthImageFormat, it will be implicitly initialized to Undefined unless you explicitly specify another value for it. The Kinect runtime methods that accept DepthImageFormat as an argument will throw an ArgumentException if you pass Undefined.
