OpenDocuments control and third-party application RRS feed

  • Question

  • I need to open documents in SharePoint for editing with a third-party editor.  Is it possible to change configuration files such as docitem.xml to use the existing OpenDocuments control (OWSSUPP.dll) to open, check in, check out, etc. the new file type?  I just want the EditDocument method to open the document in the editor that is associated with its mime type.  The msdn documentation suggests writing a new dll (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa978104.aspx?PHPSESSID=o1fb21liejulfgrptbmi9dec92).  It should be possible to use the existing OpenDocuments control if the right configuration changes are made.  Thanks.
