REST, HTTPS and dynamic pages RRS feed

  • Question

  • Please advice if this is not the right forum

We are using WCF to service our pages through REST requests:

The pages are dynamic in the sense that the user starts the main page and afterwards we update content on the page by making HTTP get and post requests and replacing parts of the page with the downloaded response.

By now everything is working with HTTP but we need to move to HTTPS which I'm not familiar with. So before spending money with SSL certificates and setup, I want to clarify a few things:

1 - If I buy a certificate for my domain, like www.mydomain.com, is this going to work for any request that starts with this url? For example, our REST services are invoked like http://www.mydomain.com/services/something/method1, etc.. Is this one certificate valid for all URLs or do I need one for each url?

2 - As the content gets updated dynamically, how is this going to be impacted by moving to https? Is it just changing the url of my REST services to use https instead of http, or are there any additional complications I need to prepare for?

    Thanks
